Parapu Chair - DuraPulp

The Swedish architecture studio Claesson Koivisto Rune came up with this children's chair that is made with a new material called DuraPulp and manufactured by Sodra. It was exhibited at the 2009 Milan Furniture Fair. The most exciting thing isn't so much the form and design of the chair itself but the material used to create it. DuraPulp is a fully compostable (new) paper product created by PulpLab, which is an innovative research lab based in Sweden.

DuraPulp combines paper pulp and PLA (a bioplastic based on maise starch) to create something that contains all the properties of paper but can bear weight, tension, and humidity, as well as temperature changes the way wood, steel, or hard plastic can. Their website has fascinating videos on their project and processes. Don't forget to check out their other ongoing projects!

Trash Type

So I've just discovered this cool "trash type" done by Anna Garforth. Her and a bunch of second year graphic design students worked together to form the type. And it's all rubbish!

She has some other neat things to look at as well such as her illustrations and her green turf-like text.
